First responders were called to the scene around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, a Boston EMS spokesperson told Daily Voice.
The woman was taken to a local hospital on advanced life support, the spokesperson said. Her current condition is unknown.
The bridge, which connects Downtown Boston and the Seaport District, was partially closed after the incident only to reopen the next morning, NECN reports.
However, it was learned that someone had filed a 311 complaint with the city about a rotted pole in the same area, the outlet continues. A city spokesperson said Boston Public Works evaluated all other poles in the area and removed 23 as a result, WHDH reports.
“The City of Boston prioritizes the safety of its residents and visitors, and in the interest of safety, the sidewalks and bike path were closed and vehicular traffic reduced to one lane in each direction until Public Works crews could evaluate all street lights,” a city spokesperson said in a statement. “Upon inspection overnight, crews removed 23 poles of the same age from the bridge out of an abundance of caution. The area is now fully reopen and safe for pedestrians and drivers.”
Public Works inspected poles on the nearby Summer Street bridge as an extra precaution, WHDH continues.
